shanghai woman by everfae shanghai woman by everfae
My mom has asked me to do a few card designs for her to sell in her shop (which sells chinese things)
This is the first design i came up with, finished and ready to print! She will sell them soon, i can't wait :)
My mom wanted me to draw a woman like the women on the cigar posters in Shanghai in the 1930s, an example here - [link] except mine looks slightly more modern, don't you think? haha

This took me an awfully long time and massive amounts of effort. Although i think i could be better (as always) i feel proud of all the work i put in. Doing the dress design took insanely long.

I will upload more card designs as i finish them!
They are pretty small size just incase anybody decides to copy and paste them and print them off themselves, although i doubt anyone would do that...)

God you're cool! Love this piece. It totally reminds me of old Asian cigar boxes now that you mention it. :D

That was what my mother based this idea on!
YAAAY! Bonus! I'm so glad this reminded you of them :)

:D Yes, and I love how you left the background white. The light haze around her form helps sell it as light and not just empty space. It also helps keep your focus on the figure and doesn't allow a background to be distracting. I love cleanliness in art. :)

Wow, thank you for such a lovely comment! :hugs:
My purpose was to have her as part of the background instead of doing the whole 'character standing in nothingness' thing :)
I'm really happy you noticed that too C:

No no no! I am all for clean compositions. It's the graphic designer in me. Less is more girl! Too many people over design artwork. A background is good but not if it becomes distracting. But that's just my opinion!

Hmm, thank you! I do want to involve more scenery in my art work though, I hope I can pull it off without making it look too cluttered :D
